Have you ever set a goal, felt the thrill of ambition, but somewhere along the way, found yourself completely off track? Or perhaps you hit the goal, but found it hard to maintain it as your new  normal?

It’s a common experience, especially for mothers juggling business and family life. The root of this paradox lies in how aligned we are with what we say we want—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Understanding the Body-Mind Connection. What we hold in our subconscious—those deep-seated narratives and feelings—powerfully shapes our experiences and outcomes. Our conscious mind might be gunning for success, setting targets like a monthly income goal or new business strategies. However, if our body and deeper mind aren’t on board, every step will feel like a battle. To say it bluntly, if the body is not on board, it won’t be happening.

Somatic Awareness: The Key to Alignment The sensations in our body are direct feedback about our alignment with our goals. When we think about our ambitions, what physical sensations arise? Tightness? Heaviness? Or perhaps a sense of lightness and excitement? These reactions are telling; they indicate whether our goals feel like a threat or an exciting challenge that will come to live. This is how we want if our body is on board.

Let’s make this practical. Take a moment and be open and honest with your answers to get the full benefit.

  • Q: What is your monthly desired money goal?
  • Q: Visualize that income as your new normal. What is the first thing that you notice, what arises in your body and where, what is the sensation? Stay away from concepts, just notice the sensations. (tightens, heaviness, clenching, tingle etc)
  • Q: On a scale of 0-10 how much joy do you feel in your body when you imagine being in the experience of receiving this income goal every month?
  • Q: On a scale of 0-10 how much overwhelm arises in the body when you imagine being in the living experience of bringing that income goal every month?
  • Q: On a scale of 0-10 how much of heavy responsibility arises in the body when you imagine being in the living experience of maintaining that income goal every month?
  • Q: On a scale of 0-10 how much sense of stress arises in the body when you imagine being in the living experience of maintaining that income goal every month?
  • Q: On a scale of 0-10 how much sense of ‘tiredness’ arises in the body when you imagine being in the living exp of maintaining that income goal every month?
  • Q: On a scale of 0-10 to what level do you experience a sense of ease arising in the body when you imagine being in the living experience of maintaining that income goal every month?
  • Remember we are talking about maintaining the goal, not just hitting it.
  • Q: What is the strongest state in relation to the maintenance of that goal? (select the answers with the highest number, which represent the most dominant feelings.)  What is the verdict? Is your body on board with your financial goal ? If the predominant association is negative, then this is your answer for not hitting or being able to maintain the goal.

Emotional Feedback and Goal Adjustment If the thought of your goal brings overwhelming stress or a sense of burden, loss or sacrifice – this is a signal from your nervous system. You’re likely perceiving this goal as a risk, or a threat rather than an opportunity for expansion or receiving joy.  This state of overwhelm can sabotage progress by keeping you in a state of fear or flight, where creativity and motivation are stifled and action taking is blocked.

Aligning with Our Goals To truly move towards what we want; we need to ensure that our entire being is in agreement with the goals we set for ourselves.

This includes:

Checking In: Regularly assess how you feel about your goals. Adjust them to ensure they not only challenge you but also bring joy and excitement.

Clearing Negative Associations: Benefit from meditation, journaling, or coaching to address and dissolve fears or anxieties linked to your ambitions.

Energy Optimization: Engage in practices that boost your physical and emotional energy, such as yoga, mindful breathing, exercise, or simply doing activities that make you happy.

Making It Happen Instead of getting disheartened by the distance between where you are and where you like to be, focus on bringing qualities like joy, power, and confidence into your everyday presence.

Q: If you had more than enough confidence and success, how will you show up for your daily tasks? Act as if, until you become it.

Your Power Move Reflect on your goals daily.

Q: What’s one small step you can take right now that aligns with the energy and state of being you wish to embody?

Start there. Small, consistent actions grounded in the right energy will not only bring you closer to your goals but also transform the journey into one of joy and fulfilment.

Remember, this is not about becoming someone you are not. It is about knowing yourself, doubling down on your strengths, choosing growth and expanding your comfort zone every single day.
