As a Mum of two working in a corporate organisation back in 2011,  I felt pulled in so many directions I couldn’t find the time, clarity or energy I needed to answer the most important question going round and round in my head “Should I stay or should I go?”.

My job was “okay” but I wasn’t fulfilled and my priorities had changed – my world view had changed. Everything had changed!

Spoiler alert – I chose “go!” I retrained as an accredited Career Coach in 2018 and since then, I have been helping working parents make these important decisions and find happiness and fulfilment.

Here are some questions to consider:

  1. What is your main motivation at work right now? eg financial security, personal/professional growth, work life balance, health and wellbeing
  2. Now you know this, on a scale of 1-10 to what extent is this being met in your current role?
  3. What is missing from your current role? You are reading this blog for a reason. Something is missing.
  4. Fast forward 5 years. You are still in this job. You’re at a party at a friend’s house and someone’s asking you how your job is going. What do you say? What do you WANT to say?
Now imagine you go to the party in 5 years, but this time, you couldn’t be happier in your job, it’s meeting all your priorities – work and life feels great – what is the job?
  5. What ONE step do you need to take now  to move towards this ideal future?

Here is a 3 minute exercise to assess your work motivators  – this exercise is part of my Signature 6 month career change programme, designed specifically for working parents. Let me know how you get on!
