Testimonials

I had been struggling to make a case for flexible working whilst showing that I was still committed to growing my career in communications. I returned to work after being at home raising my boys and realised that I still had ambition to progress my career path. Laura provided the space and time to reflect, she helped me to identify my priorities and values. As a completely independent voice, she offered insight where I'd lost my own, simply by asking questions, she made me quickly realise I had all the answers I needed. We worked on reframing my internal monologue and exploring frameworks to identify success as a parent and communications professional. Over the course of several sessions, I started to rebuild my confidence levels and believe in myself once more. The results speak for themselves, I moved into my first role as a Communications Director and negotiated a 4-day working week.

Sarah, Director of Communications

I came to coaching as I was coming out of a really dark place professionally. I have two small children, and I wanted the confidence and self belief to make my job work for me and my family. I liked that Laura understood the complexities of being a mum with professional ambitions. Laura provided the time and space to work through my feelings about my future and work life balance. She was really responsive to what I needed in each session and had a raft of creative exercises up her sleeve that we used to help me gain some really important insights. I would absolutely recommend Laura to parents who have been through such fundamental change in establishing their family and want to pause and consider their careers. She is kind, funny, warm and empathetic. She was very supportive but equally didn't shy away from challenging me. Thanks to Laura I've moved from a place of anxiety and insecurity about the future to one of motivated excitement!

Kate, Special Needs Advisory Teacher

I approached Laura at the end of my second maternity leave. I knew I would need some support to help integrate back into work, find my feet and work out a sense of direction. We focussed on a number of things including, support through this transition, rebuilding resilience, juggling priorities and continuing to focus on a pursuit I love that matches my skills and strengths. Laura offered something unique and specific and came highly recommended from a contact of mine. It's wonderful to be able to share the journey of returning to work after children with someone who has been there and understands. Laura’s coaching was flexible, I never felt under any pressure and always felt understood The sessions were a safe space to share, explore, and think more deeply. I found some of Laura’s frameworks really helpful to see things in a new way and I liked how every session ended with a simple commitment, that I felt I could go away and work at. I would highly recommend any mum returning to work to have some time with Laura, it has made a big impact for myself and my family.

    Professional Background

Before becoming a coach, I worked for over 15 years in HR and recruitment roles.

In my last position, as HR Business Partner for a Housing Association, part of my role was to support people back to work after their maternity leave. Until I went through that process myself, I hadn’t understood what a life shifting transition it was, and how much I’d been missing.

I realised that there was a need for some extra support at this life changing time and after 6 months of juggling my employed role with family life, I decided to take action and became a self employed Maternity Return Coach.

With my previous experience in HR, being a parent myself and qualifying as a professional coach with the EMCC, I’m in a great position to support parents back to work, which is what I’ve been doing ever since!

    What drew you to coaching?

What drew me to coaching and the work I do now, was that when I had my daughter, everything changed.

Becoming a parent, totally turned my life upside down. (In the best way!)

I honestly thought, when I was pregnant, that I would have my daughter and go back to work and everything would stay the same. How I chuckle at my previous self now!

As a mother, I was overcome by thoughts that I wanted to show my daughter how she could do anything that she wanted. And I found, when I was having these thought. I felt a bit of a hypocrite.

Ok – I was happy, I liked my life but I didn’t love my job and if I was going to tell someone else that they could do or be anything they wanted I realised I’d better be doing that myself first.

And that’s really how my business started – with a little niggle that I wasn’t doing the thing that I should be.

Now, I get to use that experience to support others going through a similar phase in their lives and I find it extremely satisfying and rewarding.

My approach to coaching is that it’s a partnership, you bring the topics you want to explore and I bring the coaching tools and knowledge to help you to grow. Previous clients have told me they find me to be warm and down to earth, giving them a renewed sense of self belief, motivation and resilience.
