Areas of Expertise

"First and foremost, Catherine listens. She always shapes her warm, open and practical approach to meet my needs at every coaching session. Yet, she never loses sight or focus and silently works through an individualised plan for me. She has shown great patience around my hectic work schedule, gently touching base and prompting when necessary. Her intuition has been remarkable. She has helped me recognise points to work on and strengths to highlight in all interactions, not just professional."

Deidre, looking to change roles

"I was put in touch with Catherine when I was looking for a coach. Coaching takes a certain investment of time, and I have found my coaching with Catherine to be the best investment in my own development I could have made (and as an added bonus I thoroughly enjoyed it!). She provided me with the time and space to give proper consideration to some of the challenges I was facing and skills I wanted to develop further. She helped me weigh up alternative approaches and provided insightful challenge to assumptions I had made. We agreed up front the number of coaching sessions we would have, and I have come away from those feeling empowered and excited about what lies ahead."

Kate, in a new senior role

"Catherine established an empathic and supportive relationship from our first meeting and this helped me to reflect and communicate honestly. I had already identified the changes in my leadership role that I wanted to achieve from a previous leadership course. Catherine was excellent in giving me practical tips and inspiration on how to achieve them. Also the further reading that she suggested was an excellent complement to my growth, showing that she understood perfectly what I wanted to reach."

    Professional Background

Over 20 years ago I stumbled into graduate training (after a brief spell as an accountant), found I enjoyed it, and as I became more experienced, started working with managers and then leaders as a development consultant, facilitator and coach.

I’ve worked in private and charitable sectors, including various Learning and Organisational Development roles at PwC UK; Head of Learning & Development at Allens LLP (an international law firm headquartered in Australia); Head of Learning & Development at Cancer Research UK; and Development Consultant at Roffey Park Institute, with a variety of private and public sector clients.

I established my own business in 2018, and am also an associate for Roffey Park Institute, Henley Business School and the Institute for Employment Studies.

I’m an Accredited Foundation Executive Coach with the Association for Coaching, and enjoy coaching individuals from all sectors seeking support with day-to-day leadership, management and career challenges.

I completed my MSc from UCL in Organisational Psychology in 2015, with a focus on psychological wellbeing and resilience, and find I often bring this into my coaching approach for people juggling work with caring responsibilities.

I volunteer as a pro-bono coach for WaterAid’s leadership development programme, and as an Enterprise Advisor assisting Career Leaders in secondary schools.

I’ve been told that my professional background looks quite planned on paper, but in reality it has been full of twists and turns, and many moments of “Am I doing the right thing?”. In my 13 years of being a mum, I’ve tried not working, working full-time, working part-time, studying, and now working for myself, as I try to figure out my mix of motherhood and career.

    What drew you to coaching?

I’ve been fortunate enough to have received great coaching at various points in my life, so know how helpful it can be in untangling thoughts that are going round and round your head; supporting you to come up with new ideas about a problem; and holding you to account to actually do something about your next step, whether that’s big or small. I really enjoy helping clients through the same process, particularly when they are juggling caring commitments with work.

What’s it like working with me as a coach? Clients find me empathetic and supportive, providing them with confidential space and time to reflect upon their experience, questions that help shift their perspective, and observations about habits that may be blocking their progress. I focus on practical steps that will make a difference to skills, behaviours, and deeper assumptions about self and others. I’m a ‘person-centred’ coach who agrees clear goals for coaching with the client, whilst recognising priorities shift over time. I use techniques from a variety of coaching methods, depending on what will be most helpful for the client in the moment.
