As a mama, you probably have a vision of how you want to show up for your child(ren): loving, patient, present. At the same time, your professional ambitions are still an important part of who you are. That drive to contribute, create, and thrive in your career? It’s still there, quietly (or maybe not so quietly) calling to you.
Yet, motherhood and career can often feel like two identities at war with each other.
There’s the guilt that creeps in when you focus on work. The frustration of stalled career goals. And the overwhelming exhaustion of trying to give 100% to everything, only to feel like you’re falling short everywhere.
If that push-pull feels painfully familiar, let me just say: you’re not alone.
I’ve been there too, stuck in the impossible juggling act of trying to be the “perfect” mama while clinging to the professional identity I worked so hard to build.
But here’s the truth I wish I’d learned earlier: you don’t have to choose one identity over the other. There is a way to blend motherhood and career in a way that honours both parts of who you are.

It starts with these five steps:
1. Acknowledge Your Identity Shift
Motherhood changes you. Take the time to reflect on what this transformation – your matrescence – means for your sense of self as a woman, a mother, and a professional.
2. Reset Your Compass
What truly matters to you now? Get clear on your values, priorities, and non-negotiables, and let these guide the decisions you make moving forward.
3. Redefine Success
It’s time to stop chasing society’s version of “having it all” and start defining success on your terms. What does fulfilment look like for you?
4. Don’t Be Afraid of Bold Boundaries
Forget the myth of balance (spoiler: it doesn’t exist). Instead, set boundaries that protect your energy, honour your priorities, and support your well-being.
5. Have Your Own Back
Recognise your progress, trust your instincts, and give yourself permission to say “no” when needed. Self-compassion is your superpower in navigating this new normal.
If you’re nodding along, thinking, “Yes, but how do I actually do all of that?”- don’t worry. I’ve got you. I’ve created a free guide, The Liberated Mama Vision, to help you start blending these two powerful parts of yourself.
This simple, practical roadmap will help you rethink how you approach motherhood and career – without guilt, burnout, or losing yourself in the process.
You don’t have to live in conflict anymore.
It’s time to rewrite the rules, redefine success, and create a life where you can be both the mama and professional you aspire to be.
